From Martin Green:
The four songs on
"In Word and Music" have a spiritual theme to them. The first, a prayer: "Will You Wait", recognises that we are not all we would wish to be, and so we come in hope. The second invites us into that place where worship begins, perhaps with a little frustration at a world that entices us into the wrong places with false promises.

"Disciple" is a song I wrote after hearing the song "Suicide?" in the 80's. These words tell a story too, of a disciple at that first Easter- words that bring hope rather than destruction. The tune is developed from the tune of "Suicide?" and is used by permission.

The final song "Crying King" is inspired by the little teardrop church "Dominus Flavit" overlooking Jerusalem. In the middle of ecstatic crowds and cheers of welcome, Jesus weeps. The rest of the pieces are instrumentals, inspired by people and places.

Some have already been picked up by spirituality networks for use in quiet meditative moments, and church services, and as background to the daily SU blog.

The CD's are being sold to raise money for St Michael's Church restoration. The church tower and chancel arch are both collapsing and we need to raise £68,000 to pay for restoration work that will enable the church to be used by the community in future generations.

Martin has been playing the guitar since he was a teenager, and is self-taught. He has played in various styles over the years, from student rock, occasional jazz and acoustic duet work, to a local ceilidh band, as well as leading worship in his church each week.

Martin began writing songs as a teenager, and following an inspiring lesson with Gordon Giltrap, he began experimenting with various altered tunings. The results are these two CD's, which offer a selection of varied, acoustic guitar based music, with a largely relaxing feel to them.

His guitars of choice are a Takamine 12-string, a Suzuki 6-string, and his own hand-made 6-string acoustic, accomplished under the expert guidance of Alan Marshall at Northworthy Guitars. (www.northworthy.com)
